Burgh Island Swim
On the 23rd of September we had a very excited and slightly nervous group of children from Year 7 through to Year 12 congregate on the beach next to Burgh Island about to embark on a swim. The swim had already been postponed once so everyone was raring to go! Due to the tide being higher and the swell at the rear of the island causing a few waves, the route was longer this year but everyone enjoyed their swim. Congratulations in particular to Charlie Vile, Lucas Baker and Amelia Wyrozumska who completed the swim in under 40 minutes.
Eleanor Thorpe was the youngest competitor aged just 11, one of, if not the youngest to ever swim this event. It speaks volumes for the ethos of the whole school club that former Taunton School Channel Swimmers Poppy Tull, Cara Cunningham, and Charlie Vile escorted and nurtured the next prospective Channel Swimmers around what was a tough swim.
