The Taunton Accelerate Pentathlon Hub welcomed 160 young athletes from across the South West including schools from Cornwall and Wales for its first-ever South West Schools Biathlon Qualifier on Sunday 10th October 2026. With 65 pupils representing Taunton Prep and Taunton Senior Schools competitors took on the two disciplines hoping to secure a place at the National Finals in March.

Taunton Senior students achieved some fantastic results across their age groups. In the Year 9 girls’ overall competition Emma S finished first, followed by Teia M in second place. The Year 9 boys also enjoyed an excellent set of results with Cameron W taking first place, Rohan C second and Jeremy Hall third.

In the Year 12/13 girls’ competition Isobel S claimed first place, with Zara B finishing second and Zoe T third, rounding off an impressive set of performances.

The event brought together pupils from across the region for a day of fun, sporting spirit and friendly competition. The determination and sportsmanship on display made it a memorable occasion; it was fantastic to see so many young athletes getting involved.

Congratulations to all who took part. Thank you to everyone who helped make the first ‘South West Schools Biathlon Qualifier’ at Taunton such a success!
