U14 & U16 Netball Teams Crowned County Champions
The U14 and U16 County Netball Tournament this October showcased some amazing talent in netball, as they competed with remarkable skill and resilience. The tournament is always a challenging event, requiring high levels of focus, endurance, and strategic play. This year, our teams rose to the occasion not only with their netball prowess but also with an inspiring display of sportsmanship and humility and were thrilled to be crowned county champions!
Our U16 team showcased their strength on the court throughout each game, starting with a commendable 17-5 win against King’s College. With a 10-8 win over Kings Bruton and a closely fought 13-11 match against Millfield, the players demonstrated their ability to stay composed under pressure. Against Wellington, they held firm for a 15-12 win, and they capped off the day with a decisive 20-2 triumph over Queens and a solid 13-6 victory against Westfield.
The U14 team played five teams in a round robin format, starting with a convincing 14-0 win against King’s Bruton. This was followed by a 13-3 win against Wells Cathedral and a 20-1 win against Queen’s College. The team then faced Millfield in what was the most closely contested match but the girls worked together as a team to secure a 10-6 win, and finished the tournament with a successful match against Westfield, winning 10-6.
Throughout each game, the players’ grit and tenacity were palpable. From intercepting challenging passes to maintaining a tight defence, every member contributed to the teams’ outstanding performance. More than the final scores, however, it was their unity and sportsmanship that stood out. Players encouraged one another, respected their opponents, and showed humility in both victory and challenge—qualities that embody the true spirit of the sport.
With both the U14 and U16 teams being crowned County Champions, their success takes them to the regional tournament in Bournemouth next February, where they will face even tougher competition. With the passion and resilience they displayed at the County tournament, they are well-prepared for this next stage. Congratulations to the players for their achievements, and here’s to continued success in February!
