On 29th April the Futures Department, in conjunction with the Philosophy, Religion and Politics Department, welcomed representatives from Yeovil and Taunton Liberal Democrats to deliver a lunchtime talk for Year 12 and 13 Politics students.

The session focused on local political issues affecting Taunton and Yeovil, giving students insight into how national policies translate into local decision‑making and the importance of listening to and representing the views of constituents. Students explored how elected representatives engage with communities and assess local priorities, responding directly to public concerns.

The visit also helped students understand how Politics can lead to a variety of careers, including roles in local government, constituency work, policy, campaigning and community engagement. By linking curricular learning to real‑world practice, the talk highlighted how skills developed through Politics, such as communication and research, are used to understand and respond to what local communities want and need.
