Equestrian Students Trot to Success
Our Equestrian Club has been busy as always over the past month, with lots of competitions taken part in and wins secured! Lead by Head of Equestrian, Bradley Moore-Taylor, the club is going from strength to strength.
Students were busy with training over the Easter holidays, heading to The Paddock and the Mill Equestrian for some confidence building show jump training and Pontispool for some arena practice. The focus of the training sessions was on developing a quality canter and developing trust in their horses.
The club headed to the Voltaire Design Grassroots Championships in Badminton a couple of weeks ago, with Mr Moore-Taylor judging the BE100 section and student Florence competing in the BE90 section.
Florence competed with her horse Kellough Pride where she showcased her skills in the dressage phase, with the two jumping phases to follow shortly after.
Pupils received an informative talk from Tom Broadbridge an Equine Hoof Care Specialist in April where they explored the anatomy of the equine hoof and had the opportunity to ask questions relating to the management of their own horses.
The group were hugely grateful to have had an opportunity to have access to a professional within the field of Hoof Care as this will be supportive of the management and welfare of the pupil’s horses. Having an understanding of the equine hoof and management is key in supporting the health of the horse on a daily basis and allows any changes to be noted and discussed with the hoof care professional.
Daisy Thomas headed to Moreton to compete in her very first one day event with her horse Tipps!
And finally, student Florence secured a spot at the top of the leaderboard at the Larkhill Pony Trials in April! This was Florence’s first ever Pony Trial, competing with her horse Johnny.
Florence said: “It has been a dream of mine to compete at PT level and today was my first attempt. The day exceeded my expectations as my aim was just to complete a PT against all the other amazing PT riders. I’ve only had Johnny for four months, so we are still building our partnership and he really looked after me today, he is phenomenal to ride.”
