U13s and U15s Compete in County Finals of Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Tournament
This term has been an outstanding one for girls’ cricket, with both the U13 and U15 teams qualifying for the County Finals at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. Taunton School is the only school in Somerset to have both age groups reach finals day – a fantastic achievement and a testament to the depth of talent and commitment within the cricketing programme.
U13s
The U13s produced a brilliant performance in a very tight semi-final against a strong KES Bath side. Immy set the tone with an early wicket, supported superbly by Erin, Cate and Gigi. The batting began confidently, with both Immy and Eloise retiring, but KES applied pressure and slowed the scoring. With the match going down to the wire, Jade, Erin and Eva held their nerve to hit the winning runs with just one ball to spare.
In the next match, Taunton School competed strongly once again, with Nicole, Olive and Peyton joining the team to ensure every squad member contributed on the journey to the final.
U15s
The U15s faced a challenging start against hosts King’s Bruton as they adjusted to the conditions. After early wickets, Xavia, Holly and Emily batted with great maturity to lift the total to 76. With the ball, Bea struck early, and the attack of Abbie, Libby, Holly and Emily worked hard to defend the score. The opposition kept up with the rate, but a superb final over from Bea – conceding just one run – secured a memorable victory.
In the final against Wellington, we again started strongly. Abigail and Millie laid the foundations, with Millie finishing unbeaten. Emily, Xavia and Libby added valuable runs to set a competitive total of 80. With the ball, Poppy and Amalie joined the attack, helping restrict Wellington to 46 and completing an excellent team performance that confirmed both squads’ places in the County Finals.
A huge congratulations to all players involved. Their skill, teamwork and determination have been outstanding, and the whole school community is incredibly proud of their achievements.
