After a successful start to the year all three teams had progressed to the next round of national competitions!

Both U18 teams had a tough task on their hands, with both teams drawn in the same groups as the reigning national champions. Despite a fantastic effort from all involved it was a step too far, as both teams fell at this stage of the competition.

The Mixed U18 team showed fantastic fight in their 2nd round managing to win all matches other than the fight against reigning national champions Epsom College. They unfortunately missed out on the national finals by just one spot but secured a top 10 in the country finish by finishing joint 5th!

The Boys U18 team ended with a final position of joint 25th in the country thanks to their strong 1st round performance.

The newly formed GU14 team provided the highlight of the year. Despite never having entered a team in this competition before at this age group, and many players in the team coming from other racket sports within the school. They managed to not only progress to the national finals but did so without losing a single match!

At the national finals, the girls showed fantastic grit and showed how even against tough competition how to handle pressure and drive to compete. With great attitude and perseverance, the team finished 8th in the country. For a debut season in the national’s competition this was a great result, well beyond my expectations.

The Mixed U18 team has also been competing in the 2nd division of the somerset Senior leagues for the first time this term, they currently sit top of the table, and will also be in the Somerset teams cup final after Easter in the hunt to win their first ever senior league silver wear as a school team.

All in all an incredibly successful term for all the teams within the squash set up.
