Taunton School Drama Department presents our first ever “TS Pathway” production: Brontë by Polly Teale. The Pathway programme allows students who are aiming for a career in the theatre industry the opportunity to undergo a professional audition process and rehearse a full production in the same way they would working as a theatre professional. The Pathway also allows students looking for a career in design and stage management the opportunity to experience taking the lead in the process on this production.

The Brontë cast have undergone a lengthy audition process which involved submitting their own acting reels before being called to audition. At audition students were asked to read for several different roles, and in several combinations of characters.

From this we cast eight students to play the roles of the Brontë family and some of their fictional characters.

The play Brontë is a biographical account of the lives of the Brontë family; including the demise of Branwell Brontë, the publishing and creation of the Brontë’s most famous works and Charlotte’s eventual marriage. The style of the play follows closely the work of Mike Alfreds, founder of the company Shared Experience, known for its groundbreaking treatment of classical narratives.
