Clare Butler, Head of Modern Foreign Languages in the Senior School, was invited to the German Embassy for a reception with the German Ambassador to the UK, Miguel Berger, as part of the Ambassador’s ‘Making the Case for German’ initiative at the end of June.

The Ambassador spoke passionately about the benefit of learning languages, particularly in an increasingly competitive jobs market.  Berger argued that it was critical to have competent linguists to promote openness and build bridges in a global society.

Clare also met Axel Scheffler, the illustrator of the amazing Gruffalo books, who has produced illustrations and content for a new German Club initiative, and had a chat with Catherine McKinnell, the Minister for School Standards who asked about ways we can get more students learning languages.
