Students taking part in their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition spent the day preparing for their training walk. They started the day learning about navigation and map reading; and then planned their routes for their assessed expedition.

Later in the day, they revised first aid protocols by considering what they would do in different scenarios; learned how to pack their bags safely, how to minimise their impact on the natural environment, how to put up tents and take them down again and how to use a trangia safely to cook their food.

The next day, the groups headed out on a practice walk to put the skills they had learnt during their training day into practice. Each group was accompanied by a member of staff, but students were expected to take the lead on navigation to make sure they were ready for their independent assessed expedition the following day.
