In January Year 13 BTEC Business students began their final unit; ‘Organising an Event.’

The students began with no experience of organising an event and set about interviewing the Taunton School events team to find out what an Events Organiser does, and then they set to work. They researched inspiring guest speakers, planned menus, decorations, designed marketing material and engaged with many local businesses to obtain some excellent auction items. They then organised for 3 of the 4 x 100m GB men’s gold medal winning relay team: Mark Lewis- Francis, Jason Gardener, Darren Campbell and their coach Christian Malcolm (BBC coach of the year award 2017) from Athens 2004 as guest speakers for the evening.

The evening arrived and all of the students took on individual roles; Eva, Josh and Lewis presented to the guests, Hannah and Luxor kept guests happy with raffle tickets, Bradley was designated photographer, Charlotte and Olivia took time to set up the room ready for the guests to arrive and handed out prize tickets to successful auction bidders, Ollie and Jacob welcomed guests as they arrived, while Alex and Fifa were Mr Gallimore’s assistants in the auction and raffle. Every student represented themselves and the school to a very high standard.

As a department we are immensely proud of how well the event ran, and the whole BTEC class of 2024 who were exemplary in their efforts to make it happen. They have left us with some excellent memories to keep forever.
