Our U15s girls started a journey to emulate the team that reached Lords last year. In the first match the opponents were Wellington. Taunton bowled first and Bea H claimed two early wickets. This over was backed up by Holly B, who got a wicket as well as Abigail G, Ellie L and Poppy H who both bowled tight overs. The last over, which can be a tricky one with how the rules work, was amazing as Bea H returned to take three more wickets to claim five in the innings. Going in to bat Taunton, who started well, were now chasing 86. Libby H and Amelie W both retired and this pressure meant there were plenty of extras. Bea H completed a very good match with the winning runs.

In the second match Taunton batted first; the batters struggled against the Queens bowlers but nevertheless player of the match with the bat and gloves was Xavia B. An outstanding and pleasing performance for Xavia after all the cricket sessions she has attended over the last 18 months. All bowlers did well in protecting 92; Libby H and Emily D bowled two really crucial overs in the middle of the innings, which only went for a combined total of 14. With 11 needed in the last over the pressure was on but Bea H finished her first cricketing experience for Taunton School by gaining two wickets and only conceding 7 runs.

Overall a big well done to the girls and Mr Roberts’ coaching, aided by Megan D, who unfortunately could not play due to injury. Congratulations to the whole squad who now proceed to county semi-finals and good luck from us all!
