Congratulations to students Abi, Daisy and Heidi for achieving their CREST Silver Awards. They worked independently during academic scholars sessions to research a scientific question, carry out experiments and produce a report which has been externally read and verified by university researchers. CREST Silver Awards are designed to stretch students and enrich their STEM studies.

Abi researched the impact of road traffic collisions on her local environment, taking a particular interest in the debris from collisions and the plastics that it contained. Daisy and Heidi investigated the veracity of claims in old wives tales. Testing a variety of myths in the lab; what started as old wives tales became a lesson in real science. Some of their experiments went wrong and they had to learn how to correct and adapt their methods. Ultimately, the evidence spoke and they had to adapt their thinking.

All three girls will be progressing to study sciences at Taunton School Sixth Form. We look forward to seeing their continued progress.
