In addition to the pathway and academy selections and Elle Golsworthy’s England trial, the Taunton School cricket provision has remained busy even throughout the autumn and winter months! Many exceptional achievements have been made across the school.

Year 8 Oscar

Oscar competed in India representing England in the Emerging Stars Tournament in Bangalore. The team and Oscar played really well and fantastically they went on to win the tournament! Oscar was also named MVP of the tournament. He now is trying to get selected for the Indoor Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

Mr Sanderson stated: “We are so proud of Oscar’s achievements and it was great to watch the live streams, even if some were a little early in the morning! Oscar adapted his outdoor game well to the different format and was a lively member of the team, particularly with his fielding. Well done Oscar.”

Half Term Skills Sessions

During half term we had the pleasure of hosting a session for Cornish cricketers and players from Exeter CC and OBCC. The afternoon was spent showing the all-round skills that are part of being a sportsperson at Taunton School.

The cricketing skills workshops were delivered by Mr Sanderson, Mr Roberts and Mr Pike and covered cricket batting (spin options and striking big), bowling (variations) and fielding. This was supplemented by the Athletic Development sessions run by Mr Thompson and an example of the a Sports Scholar session developed by Mr Pettifer.

It was a great afternoon with lots of fun, energy, engagement and learning.

Prep Winter Cricket Report

This winter has been a season of growth and opportunity for our cricketing community. With an increase in the number of sessions, more players than ever are enjoying the chance to sharpen their skills and deepen their love for the game.

Our pathway players have particularly benefitted from the extra coaching provided by Mr Sanderson, Mr Roberts, and Mr Pike.

Their dedication and expertise have already made a visible impact, with players showing clear progress in both technical ability and confidence on the field.

Improvements are being seen across batting, bowling, and fielding, with players demonstrating greater consistency and adaptability.

The structured winter programme has ensured that development is not only individual but also collective, strengthening team spirit and performance.

The expansion of sessions has allowed us to welcome more players into the Friday group training, creating a vibrant and inclusive environment.

This has strengthened connections across our cricketing community, ensuring that both pathway players and wider club members benefit from shared learning and camaraderie.

In summary, this winter has been a resounding success. With more sessions, dedicated coaching, and growing participation, the foundations are being laid for an exciting season ahead.
