The Importance of Giving Back
Throughout 2023 Taunton Prep School raised money for a number of different charities, reaching a final total of over £7000.
One of our chosen charities was Motor Neurone Disease Association. The association is run by volunteers, many of whom have been closely affected by the disease. At the beginning of November, a couple of members of the RaG committee were fortunate enough to go to the association’s local centre and learn about the work that they do. Last year school was able to raise over £1500 for this charity through mufti days, and RaG week. We learnt that this money is used on things including; medical equipment, and at home aid. We also learnt about the grants that the association can give out to people with MND as well as the families who are affected.
Another of the local charities supported by us this year is Taunton Headway. This year our community has been able to donate £1500, to help Taunton Headway support victims of brain injuries and their families. Headway is a large organisation that has many branches, the main organisation can offer advice and information to these branches but unfortunately, each is operated financially separately so they rely on donations such as ours. To operate their free phone helpline, publish their information to help everyone affected by brain injury and finance their emergency fund to name a small amount of the services that Headway Taunton offers.
We have also donated £1500 to our other charities which include: Conquest riding centre, Ronal McDonald Houses and Mend the Gap, our global charity. Throughout this year we will continue to raise money for charity. Our chosen charities are The Barnaby Webber Foundation, Compass Wellbeing Centre and Somerset Babybank. We will continue to support our global charity Mend The Gap.
