The Advent Carol Service returned to the chapel again this year to start the festive period.

The Chapel Choir began the service by singing Kerensa Briggs’ A Tender Shoot by candlelight, after which the congregation joined in with the combined choirs for O Come, o come, Emmanuel.

AVE (Advanced Vocal Ensemble) provided a moment of stillness with their account of Eric Whitacre’s Sing Gently. Further Chapel Choir carols were interspersed with poised bible readings read by the singers and committed congregational carols with soaring descants.

Judith Weir’s was sang by Taunton School Chorus combined with staff, parents, OTs and friends of the school, in a memorable a cappella presentation. The service was led by Dr Getman, and Mr Brown’s homily reflected on the waiting that characterises the build-up to Christmas.

This event sowed the seed for the beginnings of the festive season for many, and the mulled wine and mince pies were widely appreciated by those in attendance.
