Year 6 pupils have been studying ‘The Home Front’ during World War 2 and specifically, the experiences of children living through the war years. Pupils were set the challenge of researching rationing recipes and given the option of baking items and bringing them in to taste!!

We had an amazing range to try – spam sandwiches, oat cookies, rock cakes, marmite biscuits, fruit cake made with vinegar, iced buns, honey and ginger biscuits, vegemite and crackers, jam tarts and a tomato, corn and breadcrumb bake. All this was of course washed down with orange squash!

Pupils thoroughly enjoyed this practical approach to learning – our thanks to them and to parents and the boarding house staff, for facilitating this.
