The Performing Arts department at TPS has enjoyed a truly outstanding start to the academic year with record levels of participation, exciting new opportunities and some remarkable individual achievements already making this a term to remember.

One of the most encouraging developments has been the unprecedented number of pupils taking part in our choirs. It has been wonderful to see so many children embracing the joy of singing, developing their musical skills and building confidence through performance. The enthusiasm and commitment shown by our young singers has been exceptional; it reflects the vibrant culture of music-making that continues to flourish throughout the school.

House ‘Performing Arts’ Week was another major highlight. Pupils across the school demonstrated incredible energy and creativity as they took part in a variety of activities and performances. A particular favourite was the daily “Wake Up Shake Up” on the playground, which brought the school community together each morning through music, movement, and plenty of smiles. The positive atmosphere generated throughout the week was truly infectious and showcased the power of the performing arts to unite and inspire.

We are also delighted to celebrate several individual successes. Congratulations to Rowan B, who has been accepted into the prestigious National Children’s Orchestra as a violinist. This is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of Rowan’s dedication, talent, and hard work. We are equally proud of Sienna E who has been offered a place in ‘Ballet Boost’. Their success recognises their commitment to dance and highlights the exceptional standard of talent developing within TPS. Congratulations must also go to Eden P, who has successfully auditioned for a role in this year’s pantomime, Dick Whittington, at the McMillan Theatre. Securing a place in such a popular production is a fantastic achievement and we look forward to following Eden’s theatrical journey in the months ahead.

Further success has come through opportunities for pupils to work alongside older performers. We are delighted that a number of our talented musicians, including Sacha L, Toby M and Sam O, have been offered places to rehearse and perform with the Senior School Percussion Ensemble. This is a tremendous accolade and a wonderful opportunity for these pupils to develop their musicianship, gain valuable ensemble experience and perform at an advanced level. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to hearing about their continued success.

The term has seen a packed programme of Performing Arts Cafés. These informal performance opportunities have provided pupils with valuable experience in sharing their work with supportive audiences, thus helping them to grow both as performers and as confident communicators. It has been a joy to witness so many children taking to the stage and celebrating one another’s achievements.

In the classroom Year 4 pupils have embarked on an exciting musical journey as every child learns a brass instrument. This fantastic initiative is helping pupils develop new musical skills while fostering teamwork, perseverance and a love of live music.

We have also expanded our extra-curricular provision with the introduction of brand new clubs for 2026. LAMDA Musical Theatre is already proving popular with our aspiring performers, while Mindful Movement is offering pupils a wonderful opportunity to develop balance, focus and wellbeing through child-friendly yoga activities.

The school’s recent Harvest Festival provided another opportunity for our pupils to shine. Their performances were both polished and heartfelt, contributing significantly to a memorable celebration and demonstrating the high standards being achieved across the department. From singing and instrumental performances to readings and ensemble work, our pupils represented TPS with confidence, maturity and enthusiasm.

Looking ahead, there is still much to anticipate. Following half term, we are eagerly awaiting the Year 6 production of Romeo and Juliet, the Music Scholars’ Recital and Sing Out. These events promise to showcase the incredible talent, dedication and creativity of our pupils and will undoubtedly provide further highlights in what is already proving to be an exceptional year for Performing Arts at TPS.

We are incredibly proud of all our performers and cannot wait to see what the rest of the year brings. Through music, drama and dance, our pupils continue to demonstrate confidence, creativity, resilience and joy, making TPS Performing Arts a thriving and inspiring part of school life.
