This half term, students have been designing and manufacturing a range of creative Halloween-themed products, combining traditional workshop skills with modern CAD/CAM technologies.

The first project was a Halloween Trick-or-Treat Box. Students began by developing their own Halloween-themed graphics using 2D Design software. Once completed, their designs were vectorised and prepared for laser cutting. Both the decorative panels and box components were then precision-cut using the laser cutter. Students carefully considered colour schemes to enhance the Halloween aesthetic before assembling and gluing the boxes, ensuring the lids opened smoothly.

The second project was a Halloween Silhouette Light. Students used workshop tools and templates to accurately shape the light holder components, creating a recessed section to securely house the light source. They then applied their digital design skills to create and vectorise silhouette images, which were incorporated into the design to project striking Halloween-themed shadows and patterns when illuminated.

These projects provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop their creativity, design thinking and practical manufacturing skills while gaining hands-on experience with a range of industry-standard CAD/CAM equipment. The finished products showcased both the students’ imagination and technical ability, making excellent use of the facilities available within the Design Technology department at Taunton School.

The quality of the work produced has been outstanding, and students should be very proud of what they have achieved.
