Prep Performing Arts Pupils Enjoy Buzzing Term
The Performing Arts Department has had a buzzing first half of the autumn term, with a perpetual flurry of fabulous activity and entertainment. Music, Dance, and Drama lessons and extra-curricular clubs have all been underway and pupils have been honing their creative energy and spirit. The mental and wellbeing benefits of taking part in Performing Arts activities is well documented and evidenced. We are proud at TPS to be able to offer so much to enrich the educational experiences of all our children, whether they join our free clubs or sign up for expert 1-1 and small group tuition in any or all of the Performing Arts disciplines.
Right at the start of term, we were thrilled to fill the chapel with tremendous choral music with every child singing with gusto and energy for our Harvest Service. All our main choirs (including the Staff Choir!) performed brilliantly for this celebratory service. Pupils were very generous with their donations to the local foodbank, which our Chaplain Eliza had delivered in a minibus due to the sheer volume of food donated! Just recently, we finished the half term off on a high note with our House Singing competition – a cultural highlight of the school year (visit our social media pages to watch a round up video – @tauntonschoolprep on Instagram and Facebook.)
We have had two wonderful Performing Arts Cafe concerts, a chance for pupils of all ages and abilities to show and to share their performing skills in a safe and inclusive environment. These concerts are perfect building blocks for developing and honing confidence and stage presence, so do look out for more similar opportunities in the coming weeks.
Coming up soon is the Year 6 production of Twelfth Night, a Dance Show, a Winter Concert, the Taunton Festival of the Arts (Drama rounds) plus the closing date for the Taunton Festival Music rounds – please get in touch with Mr Baker now or during the first week back in order to sing up for this competition.
With best of luck to all our fantastic young actors participating in the Drama Festival and also “break a leg” to all the Year 6 pupils for their production of Twelfth Night coming up straight after half term!
