Year 7 Follow in Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Footsteps
Year 7 stepped back in time at the beginning of the month, following in the footsteps of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
The day began at his cottage in Nether Stowey, where pupils enjoyed an immersive tour and even tried their hand at poetry writing with traditional goose feather quills. Seeking their own poetic spark, the group walked a small section of the Coleridge Way to draft verses inspired by the same panoramic views that once moved Coleridge himself.
After a garden lunch, we headed to Watchet Harbour, a key setting in ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner’ which students are currently studying in English. From exploring historic flatner boats at the Boat Museum to enjoying ice creams by the Ancient Mariner statue, it was a fantastic day of literary discovery.
