The Year 5 residential to Cornwall was an unforgettable blend of adventure, learning and laughter, all wrapped in the most beautiful weather we could have hoped for. From the moment the children stepped off the minibuses, they embraced every challenge and opportunity with enthusiasm, curiosity and a wonderful sense of team spirit.

Our first major stop was the Eden Project, where the children explored the rainforest and Mediterranean biomes with wide‑eyed excitement. They asked thoughtful questions and showed real maturity as they navigated the huge domes in their groups.

On our first evening, we gathered around a campfire to toast marshmallows. As the sun set and the sky turned pink, the children chatted, laughed and reflected on their favourite moments of the day.

Our visit to Geevor Tin Mine gave the children a powerful sense of Cornwall’s mining heritage. They ventured underground, viewed real mining tools, and learned about the lives of the miners who once worked there. The children listened attentively, asked excellent questions, and showed great respect for the stories shared by the guides.

The visit to the Telegraph Museum at Porthcurno was another standout experience. The children were fascinated to learn how global communication once relied on the very cables buried beneath their feet. They explored interactive exhibits, sent messages through Morse code, and gained a real appreciation for the history of communication technology.

A highlight for many was the boat ride across to St Michael’s Mount. With the sun sparkling on the water, the children loved the sense of adventure as they crossed the bay. Once on the island, they explored the castle, learned about its history, and enjoyed the spectacular views.

One evening was dedicated to the much‑anticipated talent show. From singing and dancing to comedy and magic tricks, the children supported one another with cheers, applause and encouragement. It was a heart‑warming display of camaraderie and confidence, with every child who performed showing bravery and pride.

Throughout the trip, the children demonstrated resilience, kindness, independence and teamwork. They supported each other, tried new things, and grew in confidence each day. The sunshine certainly helped, but it was their attitude, energy and friendship that made the week truly special.
