Year 7 Follow in the Footsteps of Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Year 7 pupils followed in the footsteps of Samuel Taylor Coleridge this month, starting with an engaging and informative tour of Coleridge Cottage in Nether Stowey. Like Coleridge, we were inspired by the landscape and panoramic views from the top of Castle Moat where we stopped to draft some poetry of our own. Pupils also got the opportunity to write with goose feather quills!
Lunch was enjoyed in the garden at the cottage before we set off to Watchet Harbour which features in Coleridge’s famous poem, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, currently being studied in Year 7 English lessons. We visited Watchet Boat Museum to look at the flatner boats used on the Bristol Channel in Coleridge’s day, and finished off the afternoon with an ice cream on the Esplanade under the watchful eye of the Ancient Mariner statue!
