⚓ “It is an ancient Mariner,
And he stoppeth one of three.
‘By thy long grey beard and glittering eye,
Now wherefore stopp’st thou me?” ⚓

Following in the footsteps of poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, our Year 7 students visited the poet’s cottage in Nether Stowey to see what led him to write the famous poem ‘Rime of the Ancient Mariner,’ which they are currently studying in their English lessons.

The students also visited Watchet Harbour, which features in Coleridge’s poem, where they explored the Watchet Boat Museum to look at the flatner boats used on the Bristol Channel in Coleridge’s day. They finished off the afternoon with an ice-cream on the Esplanade under the watchful eye of the Ancient Mariner statue!
