Managing to avoid the thunder, lightning and torrential rail experienced back in Taunton, pupils in Year 6 enjoyed a very pleasant day at the seaside on a field trip that covered geography, sciene and a dash of history.

During the morning, they learnt about the geology of the Jurassic Coast and about the life and work of Mary Anning, who was both a pioneer of early paleontology and of the role of women within the Victorian scientific community.

After a packed lunch on the beach, they spent some time fossil hunting on Monmouth Beach, the site of the landing of the Duke of Monmouth in 1685 at the start of the ill-fated pitchfork rebellion.
