We had a special detective theme for our World Book Day celebrations this year as we enjoyed a visit from Robin Stevens, author of the very successful ‘Murder Most Unladylike’ series.

Pupils from Years 5-8 had the opportunity to meet Robin and to listen to a presentation about events in her life which inspired her to become a writer of detective fiction. She also shared some information about her new series of books, ‘Ministry of Unladylike Behaviour’, which is about children training to be spies during WW2.

As usual, the school was bustling with book characters as pupils adorned colourful and creative costumes, often with some very imaginative accessories.

There were lots of detective inspired activities including a mystery suitcase containing some unusual and rather suspicious items. This sparked some very imaginative writing from all prep school pupils who wrote the opening chapter of their own detective fiction, based on the contents of the suitcase and its mystery owner.

At breaktime, pupils visited the Science Lab where they took part in a special fingerprinting activity – perfect for any budding detectives!

Many pupils were solving some clues on a Book Trail where they had to use their detective skills to work out the names of some popular fiction books.

Wood Library was also busy with the ever-popular World Book Day book swap.
