Taunton Music Festival Choir Competition 

The Taunton Prep School Choirs have once again showcased their exceptional talent, emerging victorious in their respective categories at the prestigious Taunton Music Festival. This annual event, which celebrates young musical talent from across the region, saw the Prep School’s Senior and Junior Choirs and TPS Singers deliver outstanding performances that captivated both the audience and the adjudicators. 

The TPS Singers, comprising students from Years 6 and 7, was awarded the Priscilla Hodgson Shield, while the Junior Choir, featuring singers from Years 5 and 6, claimed the Valerie Hill Shield. Their performances were praised for their precision, harmony, and emotive delivery, reflecting the dedication and hard work of both the students and their conductor. 

The festival, which has been a cornerstone of Taunton’s cultural calendar since 1913, provides a platform for young performers to showcase their skills and gain valuable feedback from experienced adjudicators. 

National Choir Competition 

The TPS Singers have made their mark on the national stage in Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, competing in the final of the prestigious National Choir Competition. Singing against choirs from across the country, the talented group impressed audiences and adjudicators alike with their passion, skill, and artistry. 

The choir’s standout performance of the uplifting piece, There’s a Power in the Music, captivated the judging panel. The opening remarks from the adjudicators said it all: “There’s a Power in THIS Choir.” Such high praise highlighted the immense potential of the TPS Singers, who have worked tirelessly to reach this significant milestone. 

The Singers have dedicated countless hours to perfecting their harmonies and refining their sound. Their hard work and commitment have paid off, earning them a well-deserved spot in the final.

Year 4 ‘A Letter to the Trenches’ 

Year 4 pupils delivered an extraordinary and poignant performance of A Letter to the Trenches, a production that brought the Christmas Day Truce of 1914 vividly to life through music, dance, and drama. Their sensitive and mature portrayal of this historic moment left the audience spellbound and deeply moved. 

The production skillfully captured the human connection that transcended the trenches during one of history’s most devastating conflicts. The pupils demonstrated remarkable emotional depth as they conveyed the spirit of camaraderie and hope amidst the hardships of war. From stirring musical arrangements to expressive choreography and heartfelt dramatic interpretations, every aspect of the performance was thoughtfully executed. 

Audience members were captivated by the pupils’ ability to convey complex themes with sincerity beyond their years. The haunting melodies and the visual representation of soldiers momentarily laying down their arms struck a profound chord, inviting reflection on the power of peace and unity. 

A Letter to the Trenches stands as a testament to the incredible talent and dedication of Year 4 students, and was a truly unforgettable production, reminding us all of the enduring impact of one historic moment and the lasting significance of empathy and shared humanity. Bravo, Year 4!
