‘Flipping’ Great Fun at TPS
The annual Pancake Races made a triumphant return to Greenham Courts in the first week of March, bringing with them a whirlwind of excitement, laughter, and fierce competition. After last year’s event was sadly washed out by the rain, pupils and staff alike were eager to make up for lost time, and the atmosphere did not disappoint. With the sun shining and the smell of pancakes in the air, the Greenham Courts were transformed into a battleground for House pride, as boys and girls from all year groups raced to claim the coveted House trophy.
The event kicked off with a buzz of anticipation as the Houses of Cooper, Dowell, Loveday, and Roberts gathered to cheer on their runners. Each House trying to outdo the others. The races were fast-paced and fiercely competitive, with participants flipping pancakes as they sprinted to the finish line. There were plenty of slips, flips, and near-misses, but the camaraderie and support from the Houses was unwavering. Whether it was a Year 3 newcomer or a seasoned Year 8 competitor, every runner was met with thunderous applause and encouragement.
The highlight of the morning was undoubtedly the staff race, which saw a bumper entry this year. Teachers and support staff from across the School donned their running shoes to take part in what has become one of the most anticipated events of the year. The races were as chaotic as it was entertaining, with staff members flipping pancakes with varying degrees of success. The crowd roared with laughter and cheers as their teachers battled it out, proving that the spirit of competition knows no age limit. Some taking it very seriously!!
What truly stood out, however, was the incredible sense of community and sportsmanship on display. Despite the competitive nature of the races, there was a palpable sense of unity as Houses cheered not only for their own runners but for their rivals as well. The Pancake Races are a testament to the strong House system at our school, where healthy competition and mutual support go hand in hand.
As the final races concluded, the Greenham Courts were left buzzing with excitement and anticipation. The final results remain under wraps, with the winners set to be announced at the end-of-term Assembly. But one thing is certain: the Pancake Races were a resounding success, bringing together the entire school community for a morning of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped organise this fantastic event. Whether your House takes home the trophy or not, the real victory was in the joy and camaraderie we all shared.
