British Sign Language Club Performs at Performing Art Cafe
This term the British Sign Language Club opened its door to new members welcoming children from Years 5-6. We have learned basics such as the alphabet, colours and pets as well as how to ask and answer a range of different questions. The Senior section of the club can now describe members of their family and offer simple opinions on their hobbies. Word order is quite different in BSL which is taking us some time to get used to!
Both the Prep and Senior sections of the club learned how to sign ‘This is Me’ from the Greatest Showman which they performed on Tuesday 11th March at the Performing Arts Cafe. Ellie L (Year 9) who normally leads the Senior section of the club conducted beautifully. It was a very moving performance and involved over thirty children aged 9 to 14.
The club was also invited by Reverend Getman to perform for a final time in the Operational Exceptional assembly on the 24th March with Ellie again conducting our Year 5 to 9 choir. The pupils are looking forward to increasing their song repertoire in the summer term with everything from Coldplay to Disney being considered. Signing to songs is a fantastic way to increase confidence and vocabulary.
