Skiing Success for Prep School Pupil
On Friday 15th and Saturday 16th March, Lucas Cox was selected to race for Les Menuires in the Etoile D’Or French championships. On Friday, Lucas raced giant slalom against over 200 other U12 competitors in order to make the top 30 and qualify for the televised duel slalom on Saturday.
Lucas was bib number 137 in the Giant Slalom so had much work to do in order to be in the top 30 and qualify. He put down a great 1st run in tough icy conditions putting him in the top 5 and qualifying for the Saturday duel Slalom.
The Duel slalom is a head to head event (red and blue course) where two racers race against each other with the quickest combined time going through to the next round. Lucas had to win at all costs, inspired by the thought of beating Millfield at rugby! Lucas went through the rounds winning each to the final. He then really put the hammer down pulling out the start gate with the roar of the crowd behind him and he raced a flawless full attack run wining both legs of the final.
An amazing day for Les Menuires and Lucas who is now the U12 Etoile D’Or champion. He directly qualified for the National French Championships at the end of March where he will compete against over a thousand full time national young racers including French team members.
What an incredible achievement, well done Lucas!
