Pedalling for a Purpose: Xavia’s 53-Mile Cycle Ride Tribute to Barnaby Webber
On Thursday 26th June, Year 9 student Xavia Bennett, undertook an extraordinary personal challenge in support of the Barnaby Webber Foundation. In a heartfelt tribute to Barnaby, whose cricket number at the University of Nottingham was 53, Xavia cycled 53 miles to and from school, incorporating cycling a lap around the school’s athletics track. As she rode, the entire senior school lined the banks of the athletics track, cheering her on in a powerful show of solidarity.

Motivated by a deep desire to honour Barnaby’s memory, Xavia also wrote and released an original song, PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), available on Bandcamp for £1.25. Proceeds go directly to the Foundation and the song can be downloaded here: P.M.A. | Xavi B .
To date, Xavia’s efforts have raised nearly £2,000, a remarkable achievement recognised during the school’s Commemoration Service, where she received the ‘Services to Charity Award’. As if that weren’t impressive enough, she also competed in the 1500 metres during the school’s sports day… all on the same day as her ride.
Reflecting on her experience, Xavia shared: “It was quite a mental challenge with so much happening at school including sports day, the 1500 metres, and the end-of-term assembly. There were moments of doubt, but I just knew I had to see it through and make everyone proud. The support I received along the way, from friends joining me to Mrs Burnett cycling beside me, meant everything. Hearing the whole school clap as I rode the track… it was a privilege.”

Xavia’s determination, humility, and compassion are an inspiration to us. Taunton School and Bevan are proud of you, Xavia.
