A very warm welcome to this edition of the Courier. I hope you have been able to enjoy the much awaited warmer weather. It is amazing what a little bit of sunshine can do to lift the spirits and it has been wonderful to hear the delayed sound of the summer sports now in full swing.  It has been an eventful time here at TPS, with a range of exciting activities and events that we would like to share with you.

First, the Year 5 Residential Trip to Cornwall was a tremendous success. Our pupils had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful Cornish coastline, participating in outdoor activities, and deepening their bonds with their peers. It was a memorable experience that allowed them to develop their independence, resilience, and teamwork skills.

In addition, the Coronation Tea Party brought an air of regal elegance to our school community. Our pupils embraced the theme wholeheartedly, enjoying some fine British food and engaging in activities and discussions centred around the importance of British history and traditions. It was a delightful occasion that fostered a sense of pride and respect for our heritage.

The Year 6 Science and Geography Trip provided our pupils with hands-on learning experiences outside of the classroom. They had the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world situations, deepening their understanding of scientific concepts and geographical phenomena along with searching for fossils. These trips are invaluable in broadening horizons and nurturing curiosity.

Another highlight was the Year 7 Trip to Coleridge Cottage, where our pupils were immersed in the world of literature and poetry. They explored the former home of the renowned poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, gaining insights into his life and works. This excursion sparked their creativity and appreciation for the power of words.

Our Summer Music Concert, titled ‘A Night at the Movies,’ was a resounding success and thank you to those who were able to join us on the evening. Our talented musicians and performers showcased their skills, entertaining the audience with captivating renditions of beloved movie soundtracks. It was a true celebration of musical talent.

The Strictly Studio Drama performances were a testament to the dedication and hard work of our Year 7 & 8 drama pupils. They delivered captivating and emotionally charged performances, showcasing their acting prowess and creativity.

Our Year 4 pupils had an exciting trip to the Wild Place Project, where they encountered various species of wildlife and learned about the importance of conservation. It was a hands on experience that sparked their curiosity and nurtured a sense of responsibility towards the natural world.

The Parents’ Association Coffee Morning brought together our school community once more, providing an opportunity for parents to connect, share experiences, and contribute to the betterment of our school. It was good to see the new initiative of a sports kit sale take place and I know that the Parents’ Association are keen to run this again during the Summer Fair on Thursday 15th June. Please keep this date free as it would be lovely to see as many of you as possible. It is through such collaboration and support that we can continue to build a thriving and inclusive school.

Exam & Assessment Week has been a challenging yet important week for our Year 7 & 8 pupils. They demonstrated resilience and determination as they tackled their exams and assessments, and we commend their efforts and hard work. We are confident that their dedication will yield positive outcomes.

In the sports arena we continue to have much success, and last weekend our triathletes were out in force at the National IAPS finals. There were excellent performances across the board with two pupils gaining National titles. Well done to all who took part.

Finally, the Colour Run was a vibrant and energetic event that brought our school community together in a spirit of fun and energy. The colourful atmosphere and enthusiastic participation showcased the unity and camaraderie that define our school.

I would like to express my gratitude to the staff, pupils, and parents for their contributions and support in making these events successful. It is through your involvement that we can create memorable and enriching experiences for our children.

Finally, it has been wonderful to finish another half term with Sports Day. I hope the children start the holidays with a sense of pride and can reflect over their challenges and successes from the past weeks. I look forward to seeing you after half term when we still have much to celebrate.
