Netballers Spend Half Term in France
During the October half-term break, 23 Year 9 netball players and three staff members went on a trip to France to participate in the 2024 International Netball Festival.
The tour kicked off with a masterclass led by elite netball players, focusing on key skills such as attacking, defending, shooting, and ball handling. A highlight was the opportunity for the girls to meet England and Super League athlete Elle McDonald, who answered their questions about nutrition, pre-match superstitions, and typical training routines.
The girls then applied their new skills in a day-long tournament featuring 20 other Under 14 teams from clubs and schools. They played with tenacity and teamwork, achieving impressive results: the Taunton Red and Blue teams finished 3rd and 7th respectively, while the Taunton White team claimed 2nd place in the Plate competition. Notably, Hanaa H from the Taunton Red team was awarded the Under 14 Player of the Tournament for her exceptional interceptions, tight marking, and relentless contesting of the ball. Coaches also praised her sportsmanship and conduct on the court. Despite the long, tiring day, the girls gained valuable experience and made new friends in the netball community.
On the final day, the girls enjoyed visits to Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios, with the Tower of Terror and Avengers rides being particularly popular. Overall, the tour was a fantastic experience for all, and the girls were brilliant ambassadors for Taunton School.
