On Saturday, 15th June 2024, our Year 12 students had the opportunity to explore diverse career paths during our highly anticipated Careers Symposium. The event was a resounding success, providing students with valuable insights and inspiration as they prepare for their futures.

Students were able to attend three sessions, each featuring esteemed professionals who shared their career journeys and in-depth knowledge of their respective fields. Among the distinguished guests were:

  • Dr. Jenny Hobod, a Lecturer in Environment and Development at the University of Leeds’ Sustainability Research Institute, who discussed her work in environmental sustainability and development.
  • Kaitlynn Kelly, an Adoption Change Management Consultant with Valorem Reply, a global technology consultancy and Microsoft Partner, who offered insights into the dynamic world of technology and change management.
  • Luke Knight, a Taunton-based Broadcast Journalist for the BBC in Somerset, who also spoke about his burgeoning social media career.
  • Charlie Franks, our former Head Boy (2022-23), who captivated students with his experiences as a performer with Disney and his creative journey as a Drag Queen, Deidre Darling, managing a small business.
  • James Poole, a Senior Supply Chain Analyst at Numatic International.
  • Numatic International who conducted a practical, hands-on session looking at Henry vacuum. 

During the break, students enjoyed a special meet and greet with the speakers, allowing for personal interactions and networking opportunities.

The event culminated with a live virtual international Q&A session in the school theatre, featuring three illustrious alumni who graduated from Taunton in 1981 and went on to become global successes in accountancy. Faiz Azmi, Matthew Heywood, and Louis Wong shared their experiences, the benefits of their accountancy qualifications, and the valuable lessons they have learned throughout their careers.

This year’s Careers Symposium was an incredible opportunity for our students to learn from a diverse group of professionals, gaining insights into various industries and professions. We are immensely grateful to our guest speakers for their time and expertise, and we look forward to seeing how these experiences will inspire and shape the future careers of our students.
