TSIMS Students Enjoy Last Week of Term
Whilst some of the students were enjoying their time at the CCF camp or walking for their Duke of Edinburgh awards, others got to enjoy all the fun trips planned for the final week of term.
Kicking off the week, students travelled to Saunton Sands in North Devon to go surfing. The surf was perfect and although not everyone was able to stand up on their boards, they all gave it their best shot and still enjoyed their time at the beach.
The first trip was to Wimbleball Lake, where the students split of to do activities on the lake. One group got to paddle around the lake on a giant paddle board. After a bit of practice they really got up to speed and made it far across the lake. Where they were able to run and jump into the water.
Meanwhile, the other group were raft building. Once the vessel was created, they too paddle across the lake. Despite some great team work, the building of the raft was unfortunately not good enough to last and the raft collapsed in the lake. However, this didn’t stop the students having fun, as they laughed all the way through being rescued and taken back to shore.
The next trip of the week was just for our junior students, who got to go to the Mendip Centre, where they learned lots of new outdoor skills. One of these skills was making a fire. With a little bit of help, they were all successful and got to toast marshmallows over their fires. The students also got to do some battle archery. This is something they have done before, so it wasn’t long until they were firing arrows with ease.
Finally, at the end of the week, students travelled to Haldon Forest to do some orienteering. Once they had done one trail to learn how to use their maps and compasses, they set off alone to do the rest of the trails. Everyone did a great job in their groups, teaming up to find each of the markers and helping each other when they got lost. Prizes of sweets and chocolate were given out at the end of the trip to those who worked together the best and to those who were the quickest on each of the trails.
Overall, it was an excellent final week for the students, before they had to pack their bags to go home at the end of the term.
