Prep House Singing
The school sports hall was transformed into a concert venue with a big stage and bright lights and it was alive with melody and excitement as the annual House Singing event brought everyone together for a night of vocal prowess and camaraderie. The four formidable houses – Cooper, Dowell, Loveday, and Roberts – engaged in a spirited musical battle, leaving the audience awestruck.
The event kicked off with the Dowell house, whose energetic performance set the tone for the afternoon. They displayed unity and enthusiasm, showcasing both their vocal talents and choreography skills. Their rendition of ‘build me up buttercup’ had the audience tapping their feet.
Cooper house, not to be outdone, presented a well-coordinated and heart-warming performance of ‘I’m believer’. Their harmonious singing and touching ballads left many audience members wanting more. Loveday house followed, bringing their unique charm and charisma to the stage with their version of ‘these boots are made for walking’. Their colourful green lights and dynamic show left a lasting impression, and the crowd couldn’t help but cheer.
Roberts house wrapped up the house performances with a bang. Their powerful vocals and intricate harmonies mesmerized everyone. They chose ‘In the jungle’ as their song and demonstrated their versatility, and the precision of their act was remarkable. It was also backed up with incredible sound effects and masks.
But it wasn’t just about the houses. Several individual acts also graced the stage, wowing the crowd with their exceptional talents. From soulful Dance to mesmerizing instrumental performances, these acts added a diverse and enriching dimension to the event. The sheer talent on display left the judges with a challenging task ahead.
The judges (our Former Head of Performing Arts, Mrs Hornsby and former Head of Maths, Mr Hornsby) had the unenviable job of selecting the winners, and after much deliberation, Roberts house emerged as the overall champions of the house song, displaying an impressive combination of vocal prowess, showmanship, and coordination. However, it was a close competition, and all four houses were acknowledged for their efforts.
The House Singing Event wasn’t just a competition; it was a celebration of music and the unity it can bring. It showcased the remarkable talents of the pupils and their dedication to their respective houses. There was also a special treat for the children when a staff band appeared, comprising of Mrs Simmonds, Mr Baker, Mr Stepney, Mrs Carden & Mr Raven. The event was a testament to the school’s commitment to all children getting an opportunity to be a part of Performing Arts at Taunton School. Although a competitive fun day was had by all, it was evident that the House Singing Event had once again created cherished memories and strengthened the bonds of friendship among the pupils.
