Inter-House Philosothon
Taunton school’s first inter-house philosothon of the year was a resounding success! Students from all twelve houses came together to engage in thoughtful discussion on a variety of complex philosophical and ethical issues. The discussions were lively and engaging, with students sharing their own ideas, listening to the ideas of others, and asking clarifying questions. Students were not afraid to challenge each other’s thinking, but they did so in a respectful and productive way.
The philosothon was a valuable learning experience for all involved. Students had the opportunity to practice their critical thinking skills, learn from each other, and develop a deeper understanding of the complex issues they discussed.
The success of the inter-house philosothon was reliant upon the support of staff who gave up their evening to serve as judges, along with two old Tauntonians, one of whom travelled all the way from the Hague! It is also a testament to the school’s commitment to providing students with a well-rounded education that includes opportunities for critical thinking and respectful dialogue, supporting the school’s ethos of engendering kindness, engagement and humility.
