There was great excitement on Tuesday as pupils were treated to a truly unforgettable experience when a Royal Navy Wildcat helicopter landed on the school front field!

The special visit was made even more meaningful as one of the aircrew, Lieutenant Childs, is a former student of both TPS and Taunton School. Accompanied by his colleague, Lieutenant Cuttriss, he returned to his old school in spectacular fashion, arriving in the impressive Wildcat helicopter to the delight of pupils and staff alike.

As the helicopter touched down, pupils gathered to witness the remarkable sight up close. Following the landing, students had the unique opportunity to look around the aircraft, learn about its capabilities, and speak directly with the aircrew about their roles in the Royal Navy. The visit provided a fascinating insight into military aviation and life in the Armed Forces.

Throughout the morning, students were full of questions and enthusiasm as they explored the helicopter and discovered more about the technology and teamwork involved in operating such an advanced aircraft. For many, it was their first opportunity to see a military helicopter at such close quarters.

The visit was made even more special by Lieutenant Childs’ return to the school where his own educational journey began. His visit served as an inspiration to pupils, demonstrating how former students go on to pursue exciting and rewarding careers.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Royal Navy, Lieutenant Childs and Lieutenant Cuttriss for making this incredible experience possible. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to witness a military helicopter up close and an occasion that will undoubtedly be remembered for many years to come.
